A roaring good time at Tommy Gun’s
Fellow critic, Richard Eisenhardt has told me several times about Tommy Guns Garage. He told me it’s a fun place with great food featuring some of Chicago’s terrific Equity song & dance talents performing. When they’re not working a Lincolnshire Marriott or Drury Lane Oakbrook, they’re probably gunning them down at Tommy Gun’s Garage. The floor show was outstanding. It featured a nice mix of Roaring Twenties numbers, cute comedy bits and some nice jitterbug and tap numbers. The audience interactive was clever and inclusive. This is the perfect couple’s night out. With easy parking and a nice 90 minute show, it’s a fun time. And, let me add, the dinners are amazing! I had the prime rib with baked potato. It was a generous portion. The talent double (in character) as our wait staff. I’ve not seen an audience enjoy a night out more. Sixteen years in business tells. A rotating staff of talented musical comedy players gives Tommy Gun’s Garage a workable formula for success. And da’ chef ain’t so bad either!

Brandon Hayes’ review
Welcome to Chicago, Yous’ Guys
Tommy Gun’s Garage, now in its sixteenth year of recreating Chicago’s “Roaring Twenties,” is, well, a great night out. Set in a garage, the entire evening recreates the ambiance of a Chicago speakeasy with mobsters, bootleggers and flappers…and a visit from the local beat cop.

Usually I’m not much for interactive immersed-in-the-era theatre, but the flapper polish and fine voices of the cast made this show just plain entertaining on Valentine’s evening. The song selection, everything from Rodgers and Hart’s “My Funny Valentine” (a personal favorite) to Kander and Ebb’s “All That Jazz” and, of course, a rousing finale of Fred Fisher’s “Chicago” (made popular by Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland), was entertaining, familiar, and often Chicago-specific. The singers and dancers kept the show light-hearted.
The Valentine’s evening performance included a closing, narrated vignette of the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre of 1929. For this native Detroiter recently relocated to Chicago, the story of the massacre and the many other Chicago history tidbits thrown into the dialogue were fun. It was a carefree evening out welcoming me to my new city.
Recommended.
