Fun Midnight Circus filled with humor, breathtaking gymnastics and fine songs from Alexandra Billings

Northlight Theatre sure loves diversified shows and their latest in a short-run World Premiere, The Midnight Circus: Stilettos, Circus, and Soul is a tuneful mini-circus spectacle that is fun. Since 1997, The Midnight Circus has been combining elements of circus, theater, music and performance art into a unique show that is funny, thrilling, toe-tapping and exciting.Alexandra Billings

From the energetic circus clowns with his leaping dog to the rousing opening dance and juggling number by the entire troupe, we realize that the show is manic, funny and tuneful. Alexandra Billings is easily likeable and in charge using her sensual charm, rich voice and diva persona to anchor the show with her nightclub act. Her songs went from sexy torch songs to campy cute comedy.

But the real stars in this show are the acrobats, clowns, high wire and jugglers who kept our interest while offering new even more exciting acts that tried to top the one before. Billings offered a nice variety of songs and Mars Williams’ Liquid Soul jazz-rock band sounded terrific adding powerful musical underscoring to the acrobatic acts. The band rocked throughout.

Alexandra at the circus

The Midnight Circus is a quick paced, musically rich mini-extravaganza that is audience and kid friendly. The closeness of Northlight Theatre’s thrust stage and stadium seating adds to the power of the show. This show dances well, is funny and different enough to be refreshing entertainment. Kids will like this show and the kid in all of us can’t resist. I appreciate seeing performers who are excellent at their craft and these performers are terrific. Go and have some fun.
