Innovative telling of Victor Hugo’s classic a stunning achievement of story telling
Redmoon specializes in combining performance art, music, movement with shadow puppetry, miniature and life-size puppets, elaborate masks with outrageous acrobatics on unique contraptions to stimulate interesting spectacle theatre. Their current amazing show, Hunchback, is their first remount of their 2000 Hunchback from the Steppenwolf Upstairs Theatre. Hunchback is the best show I’ve seen by Redmoon. It almost defies description as it utilizes all the above mentioned art forms together with life-size boxes that transform to reveal carnival characters with scenes that unfold in a giant pop-up book. We are amazed, thrilled and surprised with Redmoon’s retelling of Victor Hugo’s The Hunchback of Norte Dame. This special show will dazzle and enchant audiences. It is excellent fare to introduce teens to the wonder and spectacle of live theatre.

We empathize with Quasimodo (Jay Torrence) as he loves Esmeralda (Katie Rose McLaughlin) despite her gypsy traits. We see Quasimodo suffer due to the evil Claude Frollo (Samuel Taylor). Redmoon’s visual stunning art depiction is fast-paced and moving—it is a splendid retelling of the Hunchback’s story. This show needs to be seen to be fully appreciated. Get to Redmoon Theatre to experience live theatre as you’ve never seen before and take a ‘newbie’ with you. You’ll be captivated and pleased with this terrific piece of stage craft.
