Ghost Stories offer spooky side of Mamet
David Mamet has demonstrates his spooky side with Ghost Stories, two one act plays that were engaging and eerie. In No One Will Be Immune, directed by Steve Scott, we see a man being questioned as to why he stopped an airplane flight from taking off. He had a premonition of impending disaster for the flight so he invented a reason for the plane to return to the gate so he could leave. The reason he gave only lead to more questions that lead to even more questions from his interrogator. This is a clever series of questions following the logic of why which leads to more questions that never seem to end. Christian Stolte and Steve Pickering were effective.
The Shawl concerns a desperate woman who goes to a self-professed psychic, John (Matt DeCaro in a marvelous performance) to help her contact her dead mother. Darrel W. Cox, as Charles is John’s partner who is learning the art of the psychic’s con game. This is a smart play full of twists and unpredictable turns. Is John a fake or does he really have spiritual powers? This is a delicious treat that will leave you wondering.
Ghost Stories compliment the vastness of David Mamet’s talent.
