Early French sex farce funny at times
Theater Wit usually produces fine Equity shows and their latest, Feydeau-Si-Deau has its moments of hilarity. This show seemed a tad unrehearsed as some of the funny bits and physical humor was off a bit slowing down the humor. However, I glad to report that there is enough clever comic moments to make Feydeau-Si-Deau a fun show. This early 20th Century French sex farce is in its Chicago premiere at the Theatre Building Chicago is filled with slamming doors, clothing tossed through windows, nudity with a host of mistaken identities on a clever plot ripe with twists and full of funny physical humor.

The comic mayhem involves martial infidelity and has much verbal wit in its concise construction. Bret Tuomi, Ron Keaton and Kevin Theis anchor the comic mayhem. Maggie Graham, Matt Engle and Helen Sadler offer terrific comic support in this wildly crazy and over-the-top sexual comic farce. Feydeau’s writing pushed the boundaries of theatre and basically still holds up today. Theater Wit’s show is energetic and filled with humor that runs from smart to silly but it is funny and that’s all that counts. It is a fun night at the theatre.
