Sketch comedy late night show not too funny
Maybe it’s me but the late night sketch comedy show, a world premier and first production by Satyr Productions, wasn’t too funny. In fact it was a silly, amateurish show that reminded me of a junior high school comedy exercise. The show covers the entire bible with an ego-driven God of the Old-Testament and ponders, “Can Humanity thrive alone?” What this terrible show tries to do is satirize Christian beliefs and God through silly and unfunny and quite lame attempts at comedy. It has a tasteless homophobic theme that depicts Jesus Christ as extremely ant-gay.
The large cast works hard to land the show’s attempt at wit and funny bits. But the uneven pace and the lack of comedic stage craft by the players rendered the show as a flat affair. The cast is trying-too-hard to be funny. The opening night audience of mostly 20-30somethings laughed some of the time but not enough for the show to work. I found nothing clever, witty or stage worthy in “Dr. Strangegood.” This show is a crude affair peopled by young performers learning their craft. Most of the actors have a long way to go before they are able to master comedic timing. The script is an unfocused one containing too little funny elements. Don’t waste your time or money on this weak show.
